If you can have a virtual meeting, which to me means you’re there but not really; then what about virtual hearing, which I now proudly proclaim as not really hearing nor really listening.
I believe a word for all of this is, pretending.
The following is what I imagine I virtually overheard on the state of our energy, or more accurately our energy picture as viewed from the states to our south.
From here on, my virtual comments (VC) will be in brackets.
“I don’t think President Biden understands that movement of crude oil and refined products by pipeline is a secure way of moving consumer transportation fuels to consumers – especially when compared to rail or truck.” (VC: Crude oil and refined products don’t fit with the Biden Green agenda and never will.) Next question please.
“Doesn’t he understand that we are his biggest trading partner and good buddy? Moving crude oil by pipeline from your safest and most loyal supplier is good for the U.S. consumer?” (VC: Crude oil and refined products don’t fit with the Biden Green Agenda and never will) Is there another question?
“How can he just cancel the Keystone XL with the first stroke of his brand-new presidential pen yet do nothing about the 190,000 miles of liquid petroleum pipelines crisscrossing the US of A? (VC: Oh, those are ‘Made in America’ pipelines and they may soon not fit with the Biden Green agenda either. Not sure when. Wait for the email on that one.) Next question please.
“What was our official reaction to the KXL shut down?” (VC: Virtually, I meant to say actually, nothing but an, ‘Aw shucks’ comment from Ottawa. I guess it didn’t fit with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s Green Agenda, which I guess is the same as the Biden Green Agenda. But I’m only guessing.) Email coming soon on that one, too.
“So, with the KXL shut down, Line 5 seems to be next on the hit list.” (VC: Closure of Line 5 is a distinct possibility, and that’s because it doesn’t affect the Biden Green Agenda. It’s a Canadian problem that hopefully won’t be filed away in Ottawa’s “Aw shucks” folder. Hope springs eternal, or in this case it may spring a leak!)
If this line is scrubbed, it will be a line in the sand that the prime minister may actually trip over in his race to a spring election.
